32 cattle rescued from slaughter

On 3rd July 2009, the local police department confiscated a truck that had been overloaded with 32 cattle destined for slaughter. Among the cattle were young, healthy animals and even pregnant ones.

The cattle are now under our care. The healthy working bulls will be given to local farmers under a strict adoption plan.

Medical Camp for Cattle & Dogs

On June 8th 2009, WVS supported by the local veterinary doctors joined hands with the Karuna veterinary doctor and assistants to conduct a medical camp in the neighbouring village of Buchaiahgaripalli.

This event met with success as over a 100 cattle and dogs were checked and treated. The cattle owners were advised to bring their animals to the Karuna cattle hospital for any ailments rather than being left untreated.

Worldwide Veterinary Services (WVS) makes a film of Karuna’s activities

On 2nd June 2009, a team of four from WVS came to India for one week to film  all the activities of Karuna. The team, led by Luke Gamble, veterinarian, together with Marc Rowedder from “Red Earth Studio”, made a series of films for Sky Channel, UK about animal welfare all over the world. They filmed Luke doing treatments and operations at the clinic, dealing with donkeys, cattle and our small bears at the wildlife centre.

This is what Luke said, “It has been a fantastic trip. My full admiration for the Karuna team. I look forward to a strong relationship between our organisations in the future.”

The film will probably be aired in December 2009 or January 2010. We will keep you informed.

Donkey with tetanus

In April 2009, we received a donkey infected with tetanus in the advanced stages. Thanks to the special care in our in-patient ward it is gradually recovering.

Kindness Farm

In March 2009, Karuna Society purchased 18 acres of agricultural land next to its present organic farm. We are grateful to Philip Wollen for his generous donation that enabled us to buy the land. This new land which will be used  for growing organic produce for sale in our shop, and fodder for the animals is named “Kindness Farm” as it is a source of kindness to man, animals and Mother Earth.

Cattle/Large Animal Hospital Under Construction

The building for this hospital is under completion and soon it will be fully functional. It admits inpatient cows, bulls, calves, donkeys, ponies and injured goats for treatment and surgery by our specialized veterinary doctor.

We even have a camel in our care. We provide shelter, nursing facility and feed to the patients. We provide mechanical lift facilities for disabled animals. Outpatients are welcome for second opinion and treatments.
